The post that is long overdue

Last weekend was very busy. Riley had a birthday party on Friday night. Saturday she had her last soccer game and then went to church for her first reconciliation. Sunday we went to church and I had nursery so Carter and I played with all the kids. We went out for dinner after church, took naps and then put some carpet down in the basement.

Riley and Matt heading into church for her First Reconciliation (Confession for those who don't know what that is)

Monday was the kickoff of the Girl Scout cookie sale. I had a meeting that night and the girls are so excited to sell this year. They set a goal and they are ready to work hard to meet it. If you are interested in buying cookies and Riley does not ask, let me know. The cookies are $3.50 and she is selling them until March 22. The cookies will come in late April.

She has:
Thin Mints
Caramel DeLites(Samoas)
Peanut Butter Sandwiches
Peanut Butter Patties(TagALongs)
Shortbread
Lemonades
Thanks-A-Lots
Daisy Go Rounds (reduced fat cookies)

Wednesday I gave up Facebook for lent and though I thought it would be really hard doing so, I am actually doing ok. I miss knowing what everyone is up to, that is the nosy side of me but I realize how much of my time was spent checking Facebook.
Matt also started his new job this week and I think he is really happy. We are glad to have him home every night, finally!

Last night

Tonight is the last night I have to be a single mom. I am SOOO excited about that. I cannot believe how hard it is to do everything by myself. I have gained so much respect for single parents. I am so blessed that Matt is coming home and I know some parents don't have that. The kids said prayers tonight on the phone with Matt and then we realized that was the last time we have to do that. Carter asks me every day if daddy is coming home tonight for every night? It is really cute. Two weeks really is not that long but it has seemed like forever since he took this new job and gave his two weeks. On the other hand I think it will be a huge adjustment period for me to have Matt home again! :)

Trip to the hotel

So the hotel we stayed at last night was actually Matt's new hotel that he will be running. We wanted to go, stay and look around before they knew who he was. He was experiencing what his guests would. So we had a wonderful time and the hotel is so nice. We were really pleased and I am excited for him to be in such a nice place. He has worked hard and deserves it. We did some swimming, played games in our room, ate pizza and watched some TV. It was SOOOO nice to sit and relax. Carter loved jumping between the beds as you can see in the picture.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! For Valentine's Day I made the kids some cookies and they got to decorate them this morning. We are taking them to a hotel tonight so we can hang out as a family and swim. It should be a lot of fun and the kids are really excited. We didn't tell them until Matt got home last night. Carter got up this morning at 6:30 and wanted to get dressed. He was asking me what he needed to pack and he was gathering everyone's bathing suits. It was funny. Anyway, hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine's Day!!

Lazy Sunday

I had such a lazy day today and I enjoyed it. The kids watched at least 4 movies, I did some homework with Riley for school/church and we played a new UNO game that I got for Christmas. It was just a very nice day. Yesterday Riley and I had an event for Girl Scouts. It was really fun! Afterwards we picked my grandma up, went grocery shopping and then went to my moms for dinner. We celebrated Matt's birthday a little early. Unfortunately he was not feeling well so he did not enjoy it so much. He is gone all week for work this week so it will be a long week and he will spend his birthday alone. (No fun in that) The best part of the weekend was the sunshine and the warm air! Saturday we hit 50 degrees! It was so nice and today the sun was out. Carter was cracking me up all day because he thought if he saw grass we would let him go play baseball (I do not know where he came up with that). So every so often he would ask Matt or I to look out the window and he would show us the grass, then follow with begging to go out and play baseball. I think that is a sign of being cooped up in the house too long!

My sick little guy. He fell asleep in the chair.

These are pictures from the Girl Scout event that we went to yesterday. The girls learned about Tae Kwan Do and were even taught some moves. Riley volunteered to go up and work with one of the guys. I will try to load the video to share it because she was asked to kick him and she loves telling the story about kicking a grownup!!

Sour Cream Tacos and Haircuts

Riley has such a unique way of making and eating her tacos that I had to capture it. The rule is that she has to eat meat on the first taco and then she can make it however she wants. Usually we monitor the amount of sour cream but I guess I got distracted because this is what I found her eating. She was truly enjoying it.

This morning I cut Carter's hair to save some money. Now just so you know I do not cut hair. There was one time I cut Matt's hair and his boss called me to harass me for doing such a bad job. When Matt got home that night I found out I had been on speaker phone when his boss called and they were in a meeting so several people he worked for were in on it. Let's just say I vowed to NEVER cut hair again. SO, I cut Carter's this morning and this is what happened...

So really that is from his hat that he wore right after the haircut. :)

Camera withdrawals

I have not had my camera out for a while and I realize that I don't blog when I don't have pics! So last weekend Riley had a sleepover at her friends house on Friday. It was the first time she had a sleepover at a friend's (she had them at our house before) so she was really excited. She had a soccer game on Saturday and it was fun. Grandma Phyllis and Great Grandma "Honey" were there. After the game Matt, Carter and Riley came home and took naps (Riley slept for almost three hours and still didn't want to get up). I took my grandma shopping. We spent the evening at home just relaxing. I did some cooking and cleaning. Sunday I went and worked with my dad in the morning and then we went to my sister's for the Superbowl. I took no pictures of anything! Tonight I have to go sign Carter up for Preschool!!! I am so not sure I am ready for that but he is. :) I have a meeting for Girl Scouts so grandma is coming over to babysit and the kids are pretty excited about that. WHen I was taking classes Grandma Jennifer would come over and watch the kids in the evening once a week and the kids really miss that. Every once in a while Riley asks me when I have to start school again.

Matt is leaving for Texas in a little while for work this week and he loves going to his hotels in Texas at this time of the year...he was rubbing in that it is 70 degrees there. He is really getting "spring fever" because he wants to get the boat in the water. He really talks about it daily and I think he thinks about the boat all the time. Out of the blue he will start talking about a repair he want to make on the boat. The weather said it would be 33 one day this week and I think he was hoping it would be enough to melt all of the snow. :)

Well, hopefully I will get the camera out this week and take some pictures to share!
